ELF participates in FRESHAIR kick-off meeting
On 26 and 27 October, 2015, ELF participated in the FRESHAIR kick-off meeting that took place in Amsterdam.
FRESHAIR is a 3-year project funded by the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020. The international project is led by Leiden University Medical Centre and is made up of over 15 partners from 12 countries all over the globe, including the International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG).
The project aims to help find solutions to chronic lung conditions in low and middle income countries, where large numbers of people smoke or are exposed to indoor air pollution due to cooking in very basic conditions. FRESHAIR activities will be based in Vietnam, Uganda, Kyrgyzstan and Greece.
This is an expansion of the research and education programme that ELF has already supported via Healthy Lungs for Life in Kyrgyzstan (pictured above).
Within the project, ELF will play a vital role in raising awareness in local populations. ELF will advise on and provide materials on the importance of clean air, and will also provide technical support to help project and country leaders engage patients.
As with our previous work in Kyrgyzstan, the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign, with its strong emphasis on the importance of clean air for lung health, will be a key part of these activities.
