    Dan Smyth, Chair of ELF

    After starting working life in the banking sector, Dan Smyth turned his attentions to the charity and advocacy sector in 2006 and began working for the Irish Sleep Apnoea Trust; a charity he connected with after living with the condition himself. Dan has been involved in the ELF Patient Advisory Committee, the ELF Council and became Chair of ELF in 2014.

    Jørgen Vestbo, European Respiratory Society President

    Professor Vestbo is a Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the North West Lung Centre, University of Manchester, UK. His professional training consisted of specialist training in Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine in university hospitals in Copenhagen. He obtained a DrMedSci degree form the University of Copenhagen in 1992.

    Guy Joos, European Respiratory Society President Elect

    Professor Joos is Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium and has held various ERS roles since 1996. Professor Joos main clinical interest is in general pulmonology, with a focus on obstructive pulmonary diseases. He has conducted translational and clinical research into asthma and COPD for over 25 years.

    Mina Gaga, European Respiratory Society Vice President

    Dr Gaga is the Medical Director and Head of the Respiratory Department of Athens Chest Hospital. Dr Gaga has been an active member of the ERS for the last 20 years. Her main specialist areas include asthma and lung cancer.

    Elisabeth Bel, European Respiratory Society Past President

    Professor Bel has been a member of the Board and member of the Science Committee of the European Respiratory Society since 2002. Her research focuses on severe types of asthma that are difficult to treat, with a particular emphasis on the phenotyping, pathophysiological mechanisms, monitoring and therapeutic approach of this complex condition.
